Alongside the world we can see, Scripture describes an entire order of created beings — messengers, burning ones, living creatures, archangels, thrones, dominions, rulers and authorities — made by God, ranked under Him, and active in the affairs of both heaven and earth.

The Invisible Creation
The Bible's opening declaration — "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth" — encompasses not only the physical cosmos but also the invisible creation. Angels are real, personal beings: not human projections, not allegories, not symbolic language for natural forces. They are created, they possess intelligence and will, they exist in the presence of God, and they serve as His messengers and ministers.
What they are not is autonomous. Every one of them was made through Christ and for Christ, and the series ends where Colossians ends — with the Son who is supreme over all of them.
