Every major denial of the deity of Christ in Christian history falls into one of a small number of patterns, and the patterns repeat. A movement either subordinates the Son to the status of a creature, collapses the distinction between Father and Son into a single person wearing masks, or divides Christ into two persons rather than one person with two natures.
None of these are new. Arius was answered in the fourth century; the modern Jehovah's Witness position is his argument with a different translation attached. Understanding where each error goes wrong is not an academic exercise — it clarifies what the orthodox confession actually claims, and it equips believers to answer the version of the argument they are most likely to encounter at their own front door.
